Geological wonder by Debra Schweitzer!

Swan Rangers saw critters of all stripes busy eating and feeding their young during their outings this past week!

In our lead photo of a gully in eastern Montana, Debra Schweitzer provides us some food for thought!

Pat Jaquith shows us a Swainson's thrush bringing food to its fledgling young . . .

. . . a female Williamson's sapsucker with ants for its young and . . .

. . . a male Western tanager letting the fledgling come to him for something delicious!

Pam Willison caught a Pileated woodpecker feeding its young (the one with the fuzzy, punk-rocker hairdo)!

Keith Hammer watched a fawn Whitetail deer suckle its mother . . .

. . . caught a Bumblebee feasting at a Wild columbine along the Swan Crest. . .

. . . and marveled at the colors Mountain maple seeds turn as they begin to mature!

Ruth Quist found an Antelope looking for lunch and . . .

. . . a Bison doing likewise!

Carol Buchan saw a Marmot steal her hiking companion's bear spray, then watched as two of them apparently fought over who would own it (though Carol bravely stole it back)!

Otherwise, Carol Buchan reports, the scenery was rather peaceful!

Ruth Quist came across some Showy milkweed while . . .

. . . Pam Willison saw some Wild hollyhock and . . .

. . . Wild bergamot!

In our parting shot, Kathy Kruse treats us to an Iowa wetlands sunset!

If you have interesting photos of your outings, send them along with a description to keith@swanview.org and we'll try to work them into these weekly reports!
