Swan Rangers Scale Crane Mountain!

Seven Swan Rangers scaled Crane Mountain on Saturday, April 13, in a blizzard, reaching an altitude of 4,400 feet without supplemental oxygen!

OK, OK; but they did hike the Phillips Trail, starting out in a snow squall and attaining both the Crane Mountain "summit" and the knob offering great views of Flathead Lake!

It was one of those Spring days that reminds you it is still April.

Glass half-full: March winds and April showers bring May flowers . . . and it didn't rain!

The Phillips Trail offers great views of Flathead Lake along the way . . .

. . . especially at the overlook knob just beyond this crazy cairn!

A view across Flathead Lake to Cedar, Shelter, Cromwell, and Wild Horse Islands!

Mauzy Creek dressed down to monochrome for the day, reserving its Springtime colors for another!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
