Swan Rangers Hike Wolf Creek Canyon!

Seven Swan Rangers hiked and post-holed the Broken Leg Trail into Wolf Creek Canyon on Saturday, March 30, 2013!

The trail is essentially snow-free to Deer Creek, intermittent snow to Windy Point, then lots of post-holing to Lunch Rock!

Signs of spring include ticks, so carry your bear spray!

The sunny trek began with lungwort lichen near Birch Creek . . .

. . . included mountain maple buds in Wolf Creek Canyon . . .

. . . and brought the Rangers to Lunch Rock near the Wolf Creek crossing!

The Rangers thought these might be wolf tracks on the hike in . . .

. . . but it turns out they were ticks!

. . . to you, until we meet again!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
