Swan Rangers Hike Swan River Trail!

The rain and fog lifted to show off the Swan Range! (Keith Hammer photos)

Eight Swan Rangers hiked the Swan River Trail upstream from Bigfork on a rainy Saturday, January 26!

The rain was heavy during breakfast at the Cafe, was but a drizzle during the hike, and let up enough to reveal the Swan Range on the return leg of this 4-mile out and back!

Seven soon to be soggy Swan Rangers still smiling!

The low-head dam along the trail diverts water into a causeway leading to the power house generators in Bigfork.

These rapids of the Wild Mile, just below the dam, are competition class at higher water.

The trail was the old road into Bigfork before the town had a bridge over the Swan River.

Downstream, through the fog and sog, is Flathead Lake!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

Everyone is welcome!
