Swan Rangers Hike Mt. Aeneas

A bright spot near the end of the last pitch! (Keith Hammer photos)

Ten Swan Rangers hiked Mt. Aeneas on Saturday, June 22, in hopes that clouds would part and sun would shine!

They had faith and were not disappointed!

Have faith, keep climbing, and stay off the cornices!

Wind or shine, Mt. Aeneas is a nice place to hang out . . .

. . . though its warmer and the views are better when the sun shines!

Chewing on sweaty/salty backpacks and hiking poles was of a higher priority for this resident chipmunk!

The views broaden below cloud level. Note the muddy plume where the storm-swollen Flathead River meets Flathead Lake!

Elderberries bud both leaves and flowers at the same time, apparently knowing summer is short at high elevation!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
