Eight Swan Rangers hiked a rainy day loop in the hemlock forests of Krause Basin on Saturday, October 13, 2012.
Yes, it is finally raining and what better place to experience rain than among hemlock and cottonwood trees!

The old logging roads in Krause Basin are a great place to hike on days when brushy trails will soak you through!

Though an umbrella is still not a bad idea!

It was good to visit Cottonwood Bottom, which the Rangers usually visit in winter.

Back among the tall cottonwoods along Krause Creek!

Green ferns have turned colors including hints of pink!
The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.
They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.
When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.
It's a good idea to wear bright colors, if not "hunter orange," during big game rifle season Oct 20 - Nov 25.
Everyone is welcome!
