Ten Swan Rangers hiked up Peters Ridge, over the Swan Crest, and a couple miles down Jimmie Ridge on Saturday, September 21, 2013!

The shrubfields from the 2003 wildfires offer up both beautiful fall colors and great bear habitat!

Jimmie Ridge Trail climbs a bit from Alpine Trail #7, through beautiful fall shrubfields . . .

. . . to alpine beargrass and views over the top of Strawberry Mountain to Echo and Flathead Lakes!

Lunch atop the first knob, with a couple more to go before the trail descends toward Hungry Horse Reservoir.

Tracks of two adult and two subadult grizzlies taken last weekend on Jimmie Ridge Trail.

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
