Stumps outnumber trees on the State Lands north of Mud Lake! (Keith Hammer photos)
Nine Swan Rangers skied betwixt Mud Lake and Jewel Basin Road on Saturday, February 13, 2016!
Though rain was forecast, the morning was pleasant and the snow soft!

Three snowballs were stumping for political office. All denied global warming, claiming it would increase their chances of being elected!

The Rangers appear unimpressed with stump humor!

The Swan Range gets a Valentine's hug from the clouds!

And there is one stretch of old road still hugged by trees!

This larch snag really doesn't want to give up one of its last branches!
The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.
They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.
Everyone is welcome!
