Swan Ranger Walk-About!

Sunshine and smiles on the first outing of Spring! (Keith Hammer photos)

Seven Swan Rangers wandered about aimlessly north of Mud Lake on Saturday, March 23, 2013, soaking up some springtime sun!

They explored the flatlands and enjoyed nice views of the Swan Range!

It's that awkward time of year between skiing and hiking - and time to dig out the bear spray as bears begin to emerge from their winter dens!

The foreground is a bit logged-over, but offers nice views of the Swan Range!

Frost columns formed as warm water vapor escapes the soil and meets cold air.

Crocus at Echo Lake Cafe endure a temporary setback in the official launch of Spring!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
