Swan Rangers Overwhelmed by Spring!
Rainshowers over the Flathead River by Keith Hammer

Swan Rangers can hardly keep track of all the wildlife and wildflowers seen during their outings this past week!

Scroll down to see the rest of their photos and details!

In our lead photo, Keith Hammer shows us the type of weather that has turned northwest Montana green and full of wildflowers!

Keith came across a Yellow-headed Blackbird . . .

. . . lots of Arrowleaf Balsamroot, and wonders if you can find . . .

. . . the Badger among them?

Pat Jaquith photographed a Vesper Sparrow . . .

. . . a Spotted Towhee and . . .

. . . a Clark's Nutcracker feeding on Juniper, likely a juvenile as indicated by the pinkish “gape” at the base of its beak!

Ruth Quist spotted a Rufous Hummingbird and . . .

. . . an Evening Grosbeak!

Lynn Smith came across an American Kestrel . . .

. . . an Anise Swallowtail and . . .

. . . a gang of Calypso Orchids!

Skip Via found some Meadow Rue while . . .

. . . Norma Linsky found some unusual Trilliums.

Art Rzasa found a raindrop perched on a Snowberry leaf and . . .

. . . Keith Hammer found some Striped Coralroot while . . .

. . . Debra Schweitzer shows us that moss grows in Spain, but not on her hiking boots!

In our parting shots, Keith Hammer tracks the ongoing development of a bear stomp trail. Place both feet at the base of the tree, scratch your back on the tree, then . . .

. . . stomp in a clearly marked trail to another nearby rub tree! Click here to watch a bear doing this!

If you have interesting photos of your outings, send them along with a description to keith@swanview.org and we'll try to work them into these weekly reports!
