Swan Rangers Hike Wire Trail!

A view of the Swan Valley and distant Mission Mountains. (Keith Hammer photos unless otherwise noted)

Ten Swan Rangers hiked the Wire Trail on a nippy Saturday, September 23, 2017!

Some made it oh so close to Alpine Trail #7 before having to turn around!

Click here for a map of the Wire Trail.

It was pleasant down low . . .

. . . where the big cedar trees grow!

But it was a bit nippy above the big larch trees and in the alpine and avalanche chutes on Spring Slide Mountain! (Norma Linsky photo)

A view across North Lost Creek at Thunderbolt Mountain obscured by clouds! (Norma Linsky photo)

Snow among grouse whortleberry.

Sunshine on moss atop an old stump. Is that two fairies kissing atop the moss?

While this trail sign looks a little old . . .

. . . the Forest Service just built a new parking lot and horse hitching rails at the trailhead!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
