Swan Rangers Hike Peters Ridge Right!

Flathead Lake framed by the Swan Crest! (Keith Hammer photos)

Eight Swan Rangers hiked Peters Ridge on Saturday, August 6, 2016!

Half of them turned right at Bee Notch for a change of views and lunch spot!

The lazy, slightly hazy days of summer!

Just enough threat of rain to keep it muggy - but beautiful!

Peters Ridge Trail cuts across the headwall of Brown's Gulch to Bee Notch . . .

. . . where turning right heads you down a short-lived goat trail!

While many slopes are drying out, wildflowers are still in their prime where the Swan Crest snow cornices provide them a late but well-irrigated start!

Some sort of flycatcher?

Pine cones with gravity-defying pitch!

A grouse tries to blend into a tree!

Grain fields are ripening in the Flathead Valley!

The Rangers found no huckleberries along the trail, scout's honor!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
