Swan Rangers Hike Old Bear Creek Road!

Decision time where the road rounds the ridge into Wolf Creek. (Keith Hammer photo)

Fifteen Swan Rangers hiked the old Bear Creek Road on Saturday, March 26, with most continuing up the ridge toward Elk Spring a little ways and a few further!

The road is clear of snow until the ridge, then snow covered around the north side of the ridge toward Wolf Creek - and even deeper up the ridge toward Elk Spring!

The four short-legged Rangers venturing furthest toward Elk Spring encountered deep snow that turned them around. (Fawn Simensen/Chris Gotschalk photo)

The Rangers saw fresh tracks of an elk "peeling out" to get somewhere in a hurry! (remaining photos Keith Hammer)

They also spied the nest of a grape blue herron just below the road!

The younger ponderosa pine limbs have an interesting texture!

A pretty conk on a birch tree!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

Everyone is welcome!
