Swan Rangers Hike Foggy Switchback!

Big trees in the fog! (Keith Hammer photos)

Sixteen Swan Rangers hiked the Switchback Trail on a foggy, but better than rainy, Saturday, April 23!

They encountered enough snow to turn back only a few switchbacks into the old burn area.

The Swan Crest offers a bit of a tease from the breakfast parking lot!

The Rangers pose with the Forest Service's new signs at the trailhead.

First calypso orchid sighting of the season!

Orange peel fungus were numerous!

The elongated feeding holes and size of wood chips indicate pileated woodpeckers were feeding on ants here!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills. (Times will shift one hour earlier beginning May 7!)

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

Everyone is welcome!
