Swan Rangers Hike Broken Leg Trail!

A view of the Swan Crest up Wolf Creek Canyon! (Keith Hammer photos)

Seventeen Swan Rangers hiked the Echo-Broken Leg Trail on a frosty Saturday, November 21, 2015!

This is a favorite trail in Spring or Fall, though absent the ticks in the Fall!

One of the first signs of cold weather is when some of the Rangers pull their ear flaps down . . .

. . . though icy formations in Birch Creek provides a clue also!

And there's that unusual hoar frost that pushes up from the soil a couple of inches!

Wolf Creek apparently froze over before the water level dropped beneath the boulders!

It is rumored that this is where the Bigfork Elves live when they are not decorating the town for the Holiday Season!

Hardly a sign of winter in this view of the valley from Windy Point!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Wearing "hunter orange" until season ends November 29 is also a good idea!

Everyone is welcome!
