Swan Rangers Hike and Repair Peters Ridge Trail!

Wildflowers, switchbacks, Flathead Lake and canola fields! (Keith Hammer photos)

Thirteen Swan Rangers hiked and repaired the Peters Ridge Trail on Saturday, July 5, 2014!

It was a beautiful day with a cool breeze and the trail is free of snow as far as the Swan Crest!

Beargrass, nature's Fourth of July flower, is a quiet and peaceful alternative to fireworks!

Lunch atop the Swan Crest, which is bare of snow on the SW side and still with snow pack on the NE side!

Looking south along the Swan Crest, with Mt. Aeneas in the distant left and Flathead Lake far right.

Hikers provide scale for those nasty few switchbacks right before the Swan Crest . . .

. . . which needed and received substantial repair, as well as portions of the trail just prior to it!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
