Frank Vitale

Frank Vitale, horseman, lives in the shadow of the Swan Range near Columbia
Falls. He encourages the Flathead National Forest to resolve conflicts between motorized and traditional backcountry users, as the number of people here increases. "The northern Swan Range provides some of the best backcountry horseback riding opportunities near the Flathead Valley."

Jack Whitney

Longtime Bigfork resident Jack Whitney was born on a homestead at the foothills of the Swan. As a young man, he was fond of hunting in the northern Swan with a homemade bow and arrows in the Swan.  Jack has spent decades working to pass on our special way of life and outdoor traditions. “The Forest Service should not be half-way about protecting the wild Swan Range,” he says. “The Forest Service has the responsibility and should do the right thing.”

After a long life of enjoying and defending the Swan Range, Jack Whitney passed away in September of 2006.
