This culvert blew out in a tributary to Quintonkin Creek, sending lots of dirt downstream
Over time, culverts rust and erode, polluting nearby downstream waters. Fixing these problems is no small task, but it can be done by removing road fill and returning the stream to its natural course.
Quintonkin Creek is a tributary to Sullivan Creek. Both are important bull trout spawning streams. Bull trout are listed as a threatened species in part because they need very clean water in their spawning streams. Reclaiming old roads, like that shown in these photos, has helped clean the water of Quintonkin and Sullivan Creeks.
