Swan Peak marks the northwest corner of the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area. This landmark is one of the tallest mountains in the Swan Range and is seen here from Sixmile Mountain

The Bob Marshall Wilderness Area is one of the most beloved places in Montana. A million acres of natural majesty — just as God made it. It’s protected forever, just as it is, by the 1964 Wilderness Act. Bob Marshall was a Forest Service employee who loved hiking in these mountains. He promoted the idea of preserving primitive public lands across the country.  “The Bob” was named after him and was among the first areas protected by the Wilderness Act in 1964.
