This is grizzly country!
All of the Swan Range is some of the best grizzly bear habitat in the United States and is also home to black bears. The bears prefer to stay away from the trails, hidden in the dense brush where people won’t bother them. Scientists studying bears here found that mother bears with cubs need remote areas without roads to raise their young. Conflicts between bears and humans are rare in the Swan, and we can keep it that way by keeping a clean camp and keeping food where bears and other animals can’t reach it.
