MILEPOST 36 - Crater Lake

Hikers young and old alike share a fun October outing to Crater Lake in the Jewel Basin Hiking Area

It was a glacier, not a volcano, that formed Crater Lake. As you hike along Historic Alpine Trail #7, look for big scratches on the exposed bedrock, where glacial ice and boulders scoured the mountains thousands of years ago. Crater Lake can also be reached by hiking Crater Notch Trail #187, which departs from Broken Leg Trail #544 along the foot of Mount Aeneas.
