Swan Rangers Wooed by Winter!

Gildart Creek and the Swan Range. (Pat Jaquith)

Wooed by Winter, Swan Rangers enjoyed outings between last week's sub-zero and a pending big thaw in the week ending Saturday, February 20, 2021!

Click here or scroll down for the Rangers' photos and details!

While the Swan Ranger Saturday group outings remain suspended until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic, we will get a report out each week with items of interest to folks trying to get outside for some "social distancing" and spirit-calming fresh air.

Pat Jaquith sent in our lead photo after skiing in to Gildart Creek with Pam, Norma and Mary.

She also got a photo of a Crane Fly, which she warns is only about a quarter-inch long. They are apparently bite-size for the chickadees, nuthatches and golden-crowned kinglets that were feasting on the Crane Fly hatch, a harbinger of warmer weather!

Keith Hammer took this photo of an American Dipper in Gildart Creek, which he and Pam visited earlier in the week when, along the way . . .

. . . they saw 51 Trumpeter Swans on none other than . . .

. . . the Swan River! (Keith Hammer photos)

Joel Vignere sent in this photo of Bond Falls, where he and friends showshoed in deep snow!

Chris Gotschalk sent in this photo of his ski to Elk Spring, where he got in some turns and described the snow as "super light dry snow that was essentially bottomless!"

Norma Linsky sent in photos showing there is less snow at Herron Park than in . . .

. . . Krause Basin, where she skied with Mary!

This photo by Keith Hammer confirms Krause Basin was at its best of this winter and was skied several times by various combinations of Keith, Pam, Rod, and Joel!

Pat Jaquith skied the Foothills Ski Area, which finally got enough snow to groom and track, sending in this photo of "Old Man Winter," who looks a lot like Roger!

The Swan Ranger Saturday group outings remain suspended until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

If you have interesting photos of your socially distant times outdoors, send them along with a description to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and we'll try to work them into these weekly reports!
