Swan Rangers Klear North Krause!

Rangers willing to clear some trail! (Keith Hammer photos)

Nine Swan Rangers cleared trees from the trail up the North Fork or Krause Basin on an overcast-turned-sunny Saturday, November 30, 2019!

Wednesday brought another arctic blast of wind that toppled trees across power lines, garages and homes along Foothill Road, but Krause Basin thankfully fared a bit better.

While the South Fork of Krause Creek is dry . . .

. . . the North Fork is running, though mostly under ice that . . .

. . . in places shows off some neat formations like these ice terraces!

If you look carefully, there is an old track of a young bear in the frozen mud here! (hint: headed left)

This type of ground-based hoar frost deserves the name "Pebble Pushers!"

This pine drops appears determined to keep Krause Basin colorfully decorated through the holiday season!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
