Swan Rangers Hike Wolf Creek Canyon!

The Swan Rangers pause at Windy Point! (Keith Hammer photos)

Twelve Swan Rangers hiked into Wolf Creek Canyon via the Broken Leg Trail on a chilly Saturday, November 17, 2018!

The conditions were great for tracking wildlife and seeing beautiful ice and frost.

Click here for a map of the Echo - Broken Leg Trail.

The Rangers saw tracks of pine marten . . .

. . . bobcat . . .

. . . and wolverine!

Frost has raised the trail tread a fragile inch or two . . .

. . . and Birch Creek has decorated for the holidays!

It pays to look up once in a while, for views like this one up Wolf Creek Canyon from Windy Point . . .

. . . or down-canyon . . .

. . . to the Flathead Valley and Flathead Lake!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Big game hunting season is Oct. 18 - Nov. 25, so wear "hunter orange" and bright colors to be safe while hiking!

Everyone is welcome!
