Swan Rangers Hike Switchback Trail!

A view of Flathead, Echo and Mud Lakes! (Keith Hammer photos)

Five Swan Rangers hiked the Switchback Trail on a beautiful Saturday, May 19, 2018!

They also cleared a dozen deadfall from the trail in the burned area, to where the traverse above the last switchback finally hits snowpack!

These Rangers . . .

. . . will do this . . .

. . . just to find a good lunch spot with a view!

Meanwhile, the mountain maple continues to leaf out and flower . . .

. . . and the mushrooms get bigger and curiouser - this one larger than a dinner plate!

The south-facing Switchback Trail gets hikers above the snowline without hiking in snow, on about the only snow-free portion of Mount Aeneas!

It also allows hikers to check in on flood conditions along the Swan River in the Ferndale area!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
