Swan Rangers Hike Swan River Nature Trail!

Smoke on the water, clouds in th sky! (Keith Hammer photos)

Seven Swan Rangers hiked the Swan River Nature Trail on a slushy Saturday, October 26, 2019!

The sleet let up and it was a great walk for seeing waterfowl and golden larch trees!

The photographer must be a funny guy!

The Nature Trail is a gated two miles of the old road into Bigfork that was used prior to a bridge being built to instead cross the Swan River at the town of Bigfork . . .

. . . which might explain . . .

. . . why there is an old car chassis in the river, still trying to turn upstream!

The Rangers saw Canada geese . . .

. . . hooded merganser ducks . . .

. . . and bufflehead ducks.

The Rangers also had the opportunity to ponder the question of life after death!

The weather cleared up a lot during the four mile round trip.

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills. (NOTE: THESE TIMES JUST SHIFTED ONE HOUR LATER UNTIL MAY)

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Big game hunting season runs Oct 26 - Dec 1, so wear some bright colors while hiking out there!

Everyone is welcome!
