Swan Rangers Hike Sixmile Peak!

Seven Swan Rangers hiked Sixmile Peak on an atmospheric Saturday, September 7, 2019!

They went seeking clarity and were fortunate enough to find some!

The clouds began to lift and open on the hike up . . .

. . . unveiling Hall Peak near the junction with Alpine Trail #7 . . .

. . . but would it be clear on top of Sixmile Peak?

Nope! The Rangers with their heads in the clouds . . .

. . . and time to appreciate everything within the 100-yard visibility! The women headed back down to the huckleberry patches . . .

. . . but the men stayed put and told tall tales until the hot air parted the clouds, opening up views south into the Swan Valley . . .

. . . across Swan Lake and Crane Mountain to Flathead Lake . . .

. . . and to the north end of Swan Lake and a bit beyond!

If you go down to the woods today you're in for a big surprise . . .

If you go down to the woods you'll see the loggers have arrived! Trees are marked for logging and roads long-closed and re-vegetated to provide wildlife security have been reconstructed under the Weed Lake Landscape Restoration Project.

Trees are marked for logging along both sides of the Sixmile Trail. Will wildlife snags like this one survive the "restoration?"

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
