Swan Rangers Hike Krause Knob!

Peters Ridge seen through hemlocks on The Knob! (Keith Hammer photos)

Ten Swan Rangers hiked "The Knob" in Krause Basin on a somewhat squally Saturday, December 15, 2018!

A little more snow and Krause Basin will be skiable!

It's mid-December and the Rangers are still hiking, but dreaming of skiing!

While barely a base to ski on lower down . . .

. . . the snow is about six inches deep on top of The Knob!

A nice view of the north shore of Flathead Lake on the way up!

Ponderosa pine cone.

Several bunches of pine drops on The Knob!

Krause Creek is dry at the lower crossing!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
