Swan Rangers Hike Estes Lake!

A view of Flathead Lake and Woods Bay. (Keith Hammer photos)

Five Swan Rangers hiked to Estes Lake from Woods Bay on a pleasant Saturday, April 21, 2018!

It was the first snow-free hike of the year with the first sighting of wildflowers!

Well prepared to go trolling for ticks, but none found - unlike last Saturday, which turned up a few!

Even this north-facing slope was free of snow!

Estes Lake.

Little white flowers so new they are still out of focus!

These white flowers are really little!

A glacier lily up and about to open!

Buttercup!

Leaves are beginning to pop!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

(Breakfast and departure times shift one hour earlier beginning May 5 for summer and fall).

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking or skiing in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
