Swan Rangers Hike Broken Leg Trail!

A sunny Swan River and Flathead Lake! (Keith Hammer photos)

Ten Swan Rangers hiked the Echo-Broken Leg Trail on a snow-fallen Saturday, October 14, 2017!

They thought the trail would remain below snow-line, but they were wrong!

The Broken Leg Trail is famous for its wood ticks in Wolf Creek Canyon, so what's this about bears?

"We don't see no bear tracks!"

But look at those tick tracks!

Must be a really big tick!

Crossing Deer Creek.

Looks a bit like winter up Wolf Creek Canyon!

Mountain ash berries on ice.

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills (times will shift an hour later starting Nov 4).

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Big game rifle hunting season is Oct 21 - Nov 26, so it is wise to wear "hunter orange" and other bright colors while hiking!

Everyone is welcome!
