Swan Rangers Snowshoe Wolf Creek!

Wolf Creek and a wet snow pack. (Keith Hammer photos)

Twelve Swan Rangers snowshoed the old Bear Creek Road into Wolf Creek on Saturday, January 24, 2015!

The snow was very damp from the night's rain, but the day was dry and pleasant!

Click here for the Flathead National Forest map page, scroll down and download the North Half Swan Lake Ranger District map, then find the old road running north along the Forest boundary and into Wolf Creek off Bear Creek Road #5398 - straight east of Bigfork.

Group photo where the old road turns off Bear Creek Road #5398 at the gates.

Aspen and cottonwood contain chlorophyl in their bark, enabling them to photosynthesize during winter with no leaves!

A very musky smelling scent site with the track of what MAY be pine parten. Could this be a female marking her territory as the egg fertilized during last summer's breeding finally implants in her uterus ("delayed implantation") and she again gets very territorial?

There's always lots to wonder at in the Swan Range if you look around!

You may even find a Swan Ranger browsing around for lunch!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

Everyone is welcome!
