Swan Rangers Snowshoe Krause Basin!

Strawberry Peak! (Keith Hammer photos)

Twenty-one Swan Rangers hiked into Krause Basin on Saturday, March 7, with half continuing on snowshoes to the base of Strawberry Peak!

The day was sunny and warm and there were wildlife tracks galore in the old-growth forest of the upper Krause Basin!

Like geese, the Rangers always travel in a "V"! The lower part of Krause Basin is State Land, so don't forget to renew your State Lands Recreation Permit that likely expired Feb 28!

The snow bridge over South Krause Creek is long gone!

There's a lot of open water up the North Fork of Krause Creek as well.

Even this little jump-across snow bridge was gone when the Rangers returned!

Cruising up the last pitch to get . . .

. . . a nice view of Strawberry Peak and a sunny spot to luch!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
