Swan Rangers Snowshoe Elk Springs!

Sunrise up Wolf Creek Canyon on the way to the Cafe! (Keith Hammer photos)

Thirteen Swan Rangers snowshoed up to Elk Springs on the north shoulder of Broken Leg Mountain on Saturday, March 22, 2014!

It was a brief return of Winter, this first outing of Spring, with temps starting in the teens and a half foot of fresh powder higher up!

OK, that was the easy part. Now the climb up the ridge!

One can never get too much uphill practice!

It's just around the next corner - and it's still winter on Broken Leg Mountain!

A bit of a view of Ferndale and Flathead Lake from the scree slope just above Elk Springs!

Only a few boulders are wind-swept enough to show through the snow pack on the scree slope!

The kind of inviting photo that suckers a person into going snow shoeing!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

Everyone is welcome!
