Swan Rangers Ski Wolf Creek!

Wolf Creek in winter! (Keith Hammer photos)

Eleven Swan Rangers skied and snowshoed to Wolf Creek from the old Bear Creek Road on a "mashed potatoes" Saturday, January 26, 2019!

Though the snow was damp and heavy, like mashed potatoes, it was plentiful and skiing it still beats hiking in January!

Decision #1: head toward Wolf Creek or Peterson and Patterson Creeks?

The old Bear Creek Road heading toward Wolf Creek is fairly wide and popular in the beginning . . .

. . . but gets a little "western" where it breaks back into Wolf Creek Canyon . . .

. . . where Decision #2 gets made: push on to Wolf Creek or turn around?

Pushing onward provides views of Windy Point and other scenes across Wolf Creek Canyon!

Hairy woodpecker on birch tree!

Snow-capped mountain spray!

Even blue sky over the Salish Range can't lure the Rangers away from the Swan Range!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
