Swan Rangers Ski Blacktail Nordic Trails!

The Swan Range seen from Blacktail Mountain! (Keith Hammer photos)

Ten Swan Rangers skied the Blacktail Mountain Nordic Trails on a mostly sunny Saturday, March 25, 2017!

It was a search for skiable snow - with the backcountry turning to mush, the Foothills/Bigfork Ski Area no longer skiable, and this perhaps the last weekend for Blacktail grooming as well!

Remember, North Shore Nordic grooms both ski trail systems and relies on your donations!

With rain forecast, it was sunny instead!

The Blacktail Mountain trails are groomed largely on Forest Service road beds . . .

. . . but Spring is beginning to have its way with the snow pack!

Looking south from the Alpine Loop, one can see the Mission Range and Valley left of center-distant, and Big Arm Bay of Flathead Lake at center.

A little further along, one can see a still frozen Lake Mary Ronan!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
