Swan Rangers Hike Sweet Spot!

Valley fog and incoming wet weather! (Keith Hammer photos)

Thirteen Swan Rangers hiked the sweet spot between valley fog and a high-level weather disturbance, on a "boy it's windy up here" Saturday, November 12!

They broke into smaller groups intending to hike to the top of Mount Aeneas, but called it good and plenty windy on the ridge above Picnic Lakes!

All bundled up but all smiles at the Camp Misery parking lot!

The ridge walk to the top of Aeneas appeared both snowy and windy!

Picnic Lakes are frozen over with a milky-white ice!

Yes indeed, winter is setting into the high country along the Swan Crest . . .

. . . but a few black bears are still out and about!

The sun made a brief appearance on the way out, lighting up the spiry subalpine fir!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Big game hunting season runs Oct 22 - Nov 27, so wear "hunter orange" when hiking!

Everyone is welcome!
