Swan Rangers Hike Swan Foothills!

Sunny terrain in the Swan Foothills! (Keith Hammer photos)

Like moths drawn to a sub-zero flame, fifteen Swan Rangers hiked the Swan Foothills seeking sun and fun on Saturday, November 15, 2014!

They hiked nearly seven miles in the Foothills Ski Area that will be groomed for skiing this winter by the North Shore Nordic Club!

In fact, tonight is North Shore Nordic's annual fundraiser in Lakeside from 6-10 - so visit http://northshorenordic.org for details on the fundraiser, to make a donation, or for maps of its two ski areas (Foothills/Bigfork and Blacktail/Lakeside)!

We found the cold weather and the sun, but where is the snow?

A beautiful view around every corner - this one of Noisy Basin!

Ice hedging in on Noisy Creek!

Fallen tall grass testifies that it is a bit nippy in the shade!

Worth getting down on your hands and knees for a close-up!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Big game rifle season runs Oct 25 - Nov 30, so best to wear "hunter orange" while hiking!

Everyone is welcome!
