Swan Rangers Hike Strawberry Lake Road!

Twin Notch seen through fir, larch and birch! (Keith Hammer photos)

Thirteen Swan Rangers hiked the Strawberry Lake Road on Saturday, January 23, as an alternative to skiing on rain-freeze boiler plate!

Rain followed by a clear night made for a pretty crunchy morning, but the companionship and surroundings were none the worse for it!

Skiers without skis!

A clear, full moon night made for some frosty boughs!

The clouds moved back in to make for an interesting morningn sky!

The Strawberry Lake Road passes by the headwaters spring of Echo Creek . . .

. . . and offers views of Strawberry Mountain!

Maybe this is why the Rangers find themselves sometimes hiking instead of skiing in January? (University of Montana, State Climate Office)

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

Everyone is welcome!
