Swan Rangers Hike Sprunger-Whitney!

Ten Swan Rangers hiked the Sprunger-Whitney Nature Trail on Saturday, May 21, 2016!

The trail is maintained by Friends of the Wild Swan through a lease with the Swan River State Forest and interprets the dynamics of old growth forests while identifying plants and trees!

Lupine is in full bloom along the trail!

A rare occurence of white lupine among the usual purple!

Little jewels of water collect on the lupine leaves!

Some elderberry in bloom down in the river bottom.

Meadow rue blooming along the trail in the old growth.

Signs keep you on the right path . . .

. . . and there's even a bench by artist Steve Kelly along the way if you need a rest!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
