Swan Rangers Hike/Ski Porcupine Yew!

Sundog over the Swan River! (Keith Hammer photos)

Nine Swan Rangers hiked and skied the Porcupine and Yew Creek roads on a partly sunny Saturday, January 21, 2017!

They'd expected boilerplate frozen rain-on-snow but found the roads freshly groomed and skiable, for those who hadn't left their skis behind!

Rangers with skis on left, Rangers with skis safely locked in cars on right, on Porcupine Bridge!

You otter be able to figure out what kind of tracks these are!

These tracks, however, look mammalian until you notice the wing marks where they head up the small bank!

These branches appear to have been playing at making ice pancakes in the river!

While the Procupine Road just south of Swan Lake has been mapped for years as a part of a groomed snowmobile route on Crane Mountain, this is the first year we've seen it signed and groomed.

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

Everyone is welcome!
