Swan Rangers Hike Peterson-Patterson!

Mostly bare ground with scattered patches of snow - down low! (Keith Hammer photos)

Fourteen Swan Rangers hiked a loop on old roads in the Peterson and Patterson Creek areas on Saturday, March 5, 2014!

Spring was in the air, robins and varied thrush were in the trees, and there were bear tracks in the snow!

Peterson Creek.

Patterson Creek. Don't believe your GPS if it tells you this is Meadow Creek, which is further south!

The alder catkins already spew pollen if touched!

Moss on tree.

Though not many people hike old, overgrown logging roads . . .

. . . the roads nonetheless impact the environment, especially where old, rotting log bridges dump dirt into streams - like here into Peterson Creek!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

Everyone is welcome!
