Swan Rangers Hike Peterson Creek Trail!

A view of Ferndale and Flathead Lake. (Keith Hammer photos)

Fifteen Swan Rangers hiked up into the snow on the Peterson Creek Trail on Saturday, November 19, 2016!

The trail tread is mostly bare almost to the junction with the Sidehill Trail, but snow is starting to stick on the vegetation!

Such a colorful group!

It's only uphill for the first half of the hike!

Cottonwood leaves settling in for the winter!

The beargrass is beginning to lay down, with a little coaxing!

Woodpeckers are making good use of this dead larch tree!

Lichen adds an orange patina to this cottonwood tree bark!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Big game hunting season runs Oct 22 - Nov 27, so wear "hunter orange" when hiking!

Everyone is welcome!
