Swan Rangers Hike Peters Ridge!

The Peters Ridge Trail traverses Brown's Bowl before topping the Swan Crest. (Keith Hammer photos)

Nine Swan Rangers hiked the Peters Ridge Trail to top the Swan Crest on a blustery Saturday, September 27, 2014!

There was some colder air blowing in from the east up there!

The Rangers, for some unexplained reason, seek shelter on the WINDWARD side of the Swan Crest!

It was warmer headed back down the LEEWARD side of the Swan Crest, where Peters Ridge points the way toward Flathead Lake!

The Swan Crest, however, offered great views of Great Northern Mountain (right) and peaks beyond in Glacier Park!

Winds helped clear the sky so the Cabinet Mountains could make a surprise appearance beyond Kalispell and the Salish Mountains!

It appears bears have switched their diet from huckleberries to mountain ash berries!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
