Swan Rangers Hike Lunch Rock!

The glaciated purple argillite cliff known as Lunch Rock! (Keith Hammer photos)

Thirteen Swan Rangers hiked to Lunch Rock in Wolf Creek Canyon on a sunny Saturday, September 1, 2018!

They got there via 4+ miles of the Echo Broken Leg Trail, where they wagered it might be a similar distance back to the cars!

Everyone always looks so fresh and happy at the beginning of a hike!

After a long southerly traverse, the trail heads up Wolf Creek Canyon and around this Windy Point . . .

. . . where the view changes from Flathead Valley to . . .

. . . the Swan Crest in the southern end of Jewel Basin Hiking Area!

Along the way, the trail provides a tour of Birch Creek . . .

. . . Deer Creek . . .

. . . and Wolf Creek!

Fall is in the air and mountain maple seeds are preparing to take flight!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
