Swan Rangers Hike Jewel Basin!

A mountain goat along the skyline of Mount Aeneas (Keith Hammer photos unless otherwise noted)

Nineteen Swan Rangers broke into several ragtag groups, hiking Mount Aeneas and other parts of Jewel Basin on Saturday, June 20, 2015!

A lone Ranger hiked past Twin Lakes, stopping short of descending snowy slopes to Wildcat Lake, and has kindly shared his photos here!

This was the 499th outing for the Swan Rangers, dating back to November of 2005. Stay tuned for champagne and treats on #500, June 27!

This mama goat and her kid were hanging out near the microwave building on the shoulder of Aeneas . . .

. . . while this goat checked out the rocks above Picnic Lakes!

Joel Vignere shot this photo of a goat drinking out of Picnic Lake . . .

. . . and there were a few jokes about old goats on Mt. Aeneas (background center), but they won't be repeated here!

A view south from Mt. Aeneas includes Birch, In-Thlam-Keh and Crater Lakes, and the Swan Crest all the way to Swan Peak!

Flathead, Mud and Echo Lakes don't look too bad from up there either!

This silky phacelia was blooming on the peak . . .

. . . while this false hellebore was just sprouting from a newly-thawed hillside just above the parking lot!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
