Swan Rangers Hike Estes Lake!

Estes Lake amid glaciated bedrock! (Keith Hammer photos)

Eleven Swan Rangers hiked to Estes Lake on a smokey Saturday, August 11, 2018!

They hiked in from the Ferndale side and the Crane Mountain Road.

Before you can snack at Estes Lake . . .

. . . you have to hike there . . .

. . . or you could try driving there illegally on a trail not intended for passenger vehicles in a perhaps stolen vehicle?

The dry summer is bringing out fall colors early in this ninebark . . .

. . . and this mountain spray!

There are, however, a few wetlands along the way . . .

. . . and the Rangers found a half-dozen rein orchids near Estes Lake!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
