Swan Rangers Hike Elk Springs!

Fifteen Swan Rangers hiked to Elk Springs on Saturday, May 16, and got out before the rain showers could get serious!

This is just one of many great destinations on Broken Leg Mountain!

The trail up the ridge from the old Bear Creek Road to the Echo - Broken Leg Trail #544 is not shown on the Swan Lake District map, but is shown as part of an alternate route in the lower left of this Jewel Basin map, which doesn't show the old Bear Creek Road.

All smiles before the STEEP!

On the Echo - Broken Leg Trail, nearing the boulder field.

Hooker's fairy bell along the ridge trail.

A fallen dead tree brings life to the forest floor!

WARNING: If this wad of trees blown across the Echo - Broken Leg Trail was your landmark for turning off on the ridge trail . . .

. . . it is no longer there, thanks to Swan Rangers in Service!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
