Swan Rangers Hike Crater Notch Loop!

Eight Swan Rangers hiked a loop from Mount Aeneas into Birch Lake, then out through Crater Notch and down to the Broken Leg Trail at the base of Mt. Aeneas on Saturday, September 13, 2014!

It was a gorgeous sunny day with flash-frozen huckleberries to snack on along the way!

Sunny day, sunny smiles!

There's a bit of snow on the NE side of the Swan Crest these days; here along the Crater Notch Trail!

The earth appears a bit tilted at Crater Notch!

A view of Flathead Lake and Valley from Crater Notch!

It's a bit warmer with less snow on the SW side of the Swan Crest, but the huckleberries and colors are changing nonetheless!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
