Swan Rangers Got Graupel!

An S-curve snow bridge over North Krause Creek! (Keith Hammer photos)

Twelve Swan Rangers got both graupel and sunshine while snowshoeing in upper Krause Basin on Saturday, April 5, 2014!

They turned around where avalanche exposure commenced and saw tracks of wolverine and pine marten along the way!

Smiles and bad jokes under an overcast sky early on!

Krause Creek sculpts a 5' snow pack!

The Rangers, like young wolverine, step precisely in the lead animal's tracks . . .

. . . and are rewarded with a lifted cloud ceiling, a bit of sunshine, and a view of Strawberry Peak!

Days-old wolverine tracks seasoned with pine needles!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 8:30, leaving at 9:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
