Swan Rangers Enjoy Rare Rainy Day!

The Swan River and Swan Mountains in nifty shades of gray. (Keith Hammer photos)

Eight Swan Rangers spent a wonderfully rainy Saturday, May 30, hiking along the Swan River just upstream from Bigfork, MT!

It was the first truly rainy day in many weeks, though likely not enough to keep the paltry 0.11 inches of precipitation this May from breaking the record low of 0.23 in 2001!

Texas should feel free to send us some more of its excess!

The Swan Rangers before . . .

. . . and after!

Raindrops add to the appeal of this mariposa lily!

Even this pollen-fringed mud puddle was extra cheery and bubbly!

A fuzzy photo of some fuzzy-headed ducks with punk haircuts!

Anybody know what these sappy-looking blisters are called?

The Swan River Nature Trail is located on two miles of old road that still shows off some hand-laid stonework!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
